PRIVATE LOCATING SERVICES
811 versus Private Locating:
What’s the difference between them? 811 locating is where a locate company is contracted by a specific utility company to locate only their utilities for tickets produced by the state 811 system. Private locating covers locating privately owned utilities such as privately owned power and communications, sewer services between the main line and the structure, water services between the meter and the structure, gas and liquid fuel lines, storm drain systems, and more. UPA takes private locating a step further and at the client’s request, we can verify locates performed by 811 locators.
UPA’s Private Locating Division was created to help utilities, municipalities, and contractors identify the utilities buried underground on their projects, no matter the size or scope. UPA focuses on all utilities that are in the direct path of planned excavation.
PRIVATE LOCATING EXPERTISE
At UPA, we use multiple types of equipment to give you the most accurate location possible, including handheld locators, GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar), and subsurface video cameras, from brands such as Vivax-Metrotech, Pipehorn, and Impulse Radar. The vCam-6 HD professional pipe inspection system helps us traverse metal, PVC, terracotta, concrete, and combination sewer systems where other equipment may present difficulties due to connectivity, depth, signal interference, or a range of other issues. The sonde built into the vCam allows us to pinpoint and mark intersections and bends in the pipe while visually inspecting the system.
