Utility Partners of America joins the City of Tucson and Itron to launch the Advanced Metering Infrastructure rollout.

Tucson Water’s Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) project officially launched on March  2, marking the start of a major modernization effort to strengthen water conservation, operational efficiency, and customer service across the community.

Representatives from the City of Tucson, Utility Partners of America, and Itron gathered to launch the project and recognize their collaboration. The kickoff brought together utility leaders, project teams, and partners committed to delivering next-generation water infrastructure for Tucson residents and businesses.

The AMI deployment introduces smart metering technology that remotely collects water usage data more frequently than traditional monthly readings. This system provides customers with better visibility into consumption, enabling them to monitor patterns, detect leaks earlier, and make informed conservation decisions.

The rollout begins with approximately 45,000 meters serving residential, commercial, industrial, and municipal accounts. This phase allows the project team to refine installation procedures and workflows before expanding the system.

AMI plays a critical role in supporting Tucson Water’s broader commitment to sustainable and resilient water management as outlined in the city’s One Water initiative, which focuses on responsible stewardship of water resources for the region’s long-term future.

For Utility Partners of America, the project represents an opportunity to strengthen essential infrastructure while improving service to the community.

“We are proud to support Tucson Water in modernizing its system and building a smarter, more resilient water network,” said André Foster, CEO of Utility Partners of America.

Working alongside Tucson Water and Itron, UPA will deliver meter upgrades and field operations that support the city’s long-term conservation and reliability goals.

The kickoff marked the beginning of installation work as the project moves from planning to implementation.

Through this work, Utility Partners of America continues its commitment to delivering critical infrastructure projects with the operational excellence, safety, accuracy, and reliability communities expect.
