Utility Partners of America has spent 29 years building the systems and workforce required to execute utility infrastructure work at scale, work that stays consistent for customers no matter how much is running at once.

Today, that scale includes more than 1,100 professionals across 49 states and 200+ managed programs, organized around three platforms: Infrastructure, Analytics, and Professional Services, with Safety as the foundation running through all of them.

Consistency depends on a committed workforce paired with reliable systems. UPA relies on Ensight Plus to connect the field crews with the office in real time. That connection gives customers visibility into their service, helping teams work safely and efficiently.

How UPA Uses Ensight Plus

Ensight Plus is the field operations platform UPA uses to manage dispatching, data capture, customer communication, route optimization, and reporting across all projects. It supports core functions and teams inside a UPA project, from work order creation to the report a utility customer receives once the work is complete. Built as a SaaS platform on a modern, scalable architecture, Ensight Plus supports high-volume utility operations, including mobile applications with offline capabilities, business intelligence tools, and secure integrations with leading utility technologies.

“Ensight Plus is more than a technology platform. It is the work order management system that supports how UPA mobilizes, executes, and delivers large-scale utility programs. Its configurability, transparency, and quality controls are also why leading AMI technology providers, including Itron, Landis+Gyr, and Honeywell, prefer to use Ensight Plus on the projects we perform together. It gives every stakeholder confidence that the work will be executed consistently, and the data will be accurate from the field through final delivery.” – André Foster, Chief Executive Officer, Utility Partners of America

Core Capabilities Used by UPA

  • Configurable Workflow Builder: UPA teams build project-specific handheld workflows that enforce data quality at the point of capture, reducing errors before they reach the client. Workflows can be copied from existing projects, cutting setup time when standing up new work on short notice and delivering exception-free data to customers the next day on cleared work.
  • Dispatching & Route Optimization: Work orders are clustered by geographic proximity, enabling efficient scheduling and dispatching of large volumes of work across broad service territories, with a fraction of the manual effort it once took. GPS capture running in the background during installation also eliminated a 5-to-15 second wait per work order, time that adds up quickly across a large project, and millions of completed work orders per year.
  • Quality Auditing (Work Order Review): Photo auditing, data review, safety auditing, and exception investigation all run on a single platform, replacing a fragmented, multi-step process. External QA steps are no longer needed, and the data UPA returns to utility customers is more consistent.
  • Data Import/Export & Automated Reporting: Automated file ingestion and scheduled data exports reduce manual effort in reporting and data delivery, with saved filters and real-time production data available as soon as fieldwork is completed. Ensight Plus now handles the spreadsheets, calling lists, reporting distribution, and data compilation that manual processes once handled.
  • Photo & Data Repository with Audit History: Every photo and data point captured in the field is stored with full audit history, including original records when data is updated post-completion. Those records give UPA a verified, time-stamped account of every site’s condition, providing clarity whenever questions come up after the work is done.
  • Call Center Operations: UPA’s call center runs on Ensight Plus for appointment scheduling, customer inquiries, claims handling, and warranty sales, giving agents one system to navigate account details, addresses, notes, and history for both inbound and outbound calling. Management uses the same platform for lead generation, customized calling lists, and reporting, replacing the spreadsheets the team once used to distribute lists and compile results across multiple files. That same visibility gives management a clearer read on agent activity and account outcomes, information used to spot trends and support agents faster.

“Ensight Plus has become an important part of how our call center manages customer accounts, leads, reporting, and daily workflow,” said Billy Davis, Call Center Management.

Visibility From the Field to the Customer

Ensight Plus supports every part of UPA’s operation, from the schedules and reports Project Management runs each day to the workflows Operational Technology builds behind the scenes to the accounts and leads the Call Center manages every shift to the photo and audit records field crews rely on daily.

That visibility extends directly to UPA’s customers, allowing partners to view and report on their own project data within the same Ensight Plus environment UPA uses. With clear boundaries around what each side can access or change, they have a direct window into the work as it happens. That transparency is part of why UPA’s referral rating stands at 99.4%.

“Ensight Plus provides complete transparency into our operations. The data is available in real time as work is completed in the field, allowing our back-office team to begin quality assurance almost immediately,” said Ashli Yearwood, Project Management.

Where UPA’s AI-Driven Capabilities are Headed Next

Ensight Plus continues to develop new capabilities, and three additions to the roadmap will benefit UPA operations.

  • AI-powered photo scrubbing will support quality review at both the user interface and the mobile device level, identifying mismatched or incorrect data in real time before an installation is complete.
  • Automated invoicing will generate invoices directly from data already stored in Ensight Plus, shortening monthly turnaround.

These features are currently in development between UPA and Ensight Plus, and UPA will share results as adoption data becomes available.

Security is part of UPA’s Safety Standard

UPA holds its systems to the same safety standard it holds its field crews to, one that shapes how the company protects the data behind every project. Every utility partner that works with UPA is entrusting it with real data, addresses, meter details, account records, and site information, and Ensight Plus is designed to protect it with the same rigor.

From a security standpoint, Ensight Plus maintains:

  • SOC 2 Type II certified security controls
  • AES-256 encryption for data at rest
  • TLS 1.2+ encryption for data in transit
  • Secure, role-based user access and authentication
  • Regular backups, disaster recovery processes, and continuous system monitoring
  • Cloud hosting on AWS/Rackspace for U.S. deployments

Stronger in the Field

Ensight Plus gives UPA’s field teams a stronger foundation to work from and the efficiency to carry that strength into every project.

“As UPA has grown across 49 states and 200+ programs, Ensight Plus has grown with us. It is the backbone that allows our teams to operate efficiently, maintain quality, and deliver for our customers at scale,” said Keith Wilder, Vice President, Corporate Services and Enterprise Support.

Workflows built once carry over to the next assignment, and quality checks run within the same system that captures the work. Dispatching runs in minutes instead of hours, letting UPA’s technicians move faster while maintaining the accuracy their customers depend on. Customers can see completed work order data and the associated photos in near real-time, giving them clear view into the status of their project. As UPA continues to expand into new states and programs, Ensight Plus grows with it. That partnership supports the same standard of service that has defined UPA’s work for 29 years.

UPA supports gas, water, and electric utilities nationwide with the workforce, training, and field processes to execute large-scale meter and communication module replacement programs at scale and on schedule. Contact us to learn more about UPA’s meter services.
